NEW Aboriginal Education and Training Policy

A new Aboriginal Education and Training Policy was launched by the Minister on 18 November 2008.
This Policy defines the Department's commitments in Aboriginal education and training.

Working with Communities
Members of a local Aboriginal community should be invited to participate in the planning and, where appropriate, to assist in presenting parts of this teaching program. Drawing on the knowledge and understanding in the local Aboriginal community provides opportunities for schools and teachers to develop teaching-learning experiences that are more meaningful for both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal students.
Inclusion of parents and/or community members in the preparation and delivery of these teaching programs will assist in insuring that the material will more authentically reflect local Aboriginal history, culture and Indigenous knowledge systems. (link to Working with Aboriginal Communities)

Some security rules for using collaborative spaces on the Internet

  1. Students using this wikispace and other online resouces for this project must treat them as classroom spaces. Speech that is inappropriate for class is not appropriate online either. Remember that your conduct must be appropriate as of a representative of our schools.
  2. Never EVER EVER give out personal information on our wiki or ning spaces, even though they are closed to the general public. Don’t share anything that you don’t want the world to know and get into the way of being careful about the personal information you exchange. Don’t give out your phone number or home address. This rule applies to all your online activity.
  3. This wiki is private but it pays to remember that once you put something up onto the Internet, odds are really good that it will stay on the Internet. Always. Be sure that anything you write you are proud of.
  4. Never link to something you haven’t read. While it isn’t your job to police the Internet, when you link to something, you should make sure it is something that you really want to be associated with. If a link contains material that might be creepy or make some people uncomfortable, you should probably try a different source.
